In August 2023, Hon. Yasushi Misawa, the esteemed Ambassador of Japan in Tanzania, paid a special visit to Sakura Girls Secondary School located in Bangata, Arusha DC. The significance of this visit lies in the enduring friendship and collaboration between Japan and Tanzania, marked by Japan’s instrumental funding for the establishment of Sakura Girls Secondary School in Arusha back in 2015/2016.
Sakura Girls Secondary School plays a vital role in providing education to students from impoverished communities in the Arusha region and across Tanzania. The school, having received support from Japan, is now planning to expand its offerings by introducing Advanced Level secondary education, further advancing its commitment to empowering young girls.
The school’s focus extends beyond academics; it aims to nurture these girls into future leaders. More than 300 girls from economically challenged backgrounds have benefitted from the educational opportunities provided by Sakura Girls Secondary School. Notably, two batches of graduates have successfully transitioned to universities in Tanzania, a testament to the school’s impact on shaping the future of these young minds.
During the visit, there was an opportunity to share insights about projects dedicated to helping marginalized communities, aligning with the broader mission of achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The interactive session included a friendly discussion on how Tanzania can effectively attain its SDGs, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and shared efforts.
Hon. Yasushi Misawa’s visit further solidifies the diplomatic and educational ties between Japan and Tanzania, demonstrating a commitment to creating positive and lasting change in the lives of young girls and marginalized communities.
