PHIL GARNER

Phil has taught in a range of schools, both maintained and independent for 35 years. He taught Biology and Physical Education in state secondary schools and taught as both a class teacher, deputy headteacher, and headteacher in state primary schools. He was the founding headmaster of Newcastle School for Boys and was one of the founding directors of an innovative Free School based in the West End of Newcastle upon Tyne. Phil was an Ofsted Inspector for 5 years and an ISI Inspector for 8 years.

He has been a team member in over 50 school inspections. In recent years Phil has worked with TES Global and HeadsForHeads, undertaking 4 interim headships, supporting the recruitment processes for the appointment of a number of headteachers, and tutoring 4 unqualified teachers as they sought Qualified Teacher Status through the Straight to the Teaching programme.

At this time he is a Director of the Independent Schools Portal and Rocket Learn, an online learning platform. He is a trustee at the Queens Hall Arts in Hexham, Northumberland.
