Field Visit Report: Naitolia Village and Dispensary

Location: Naitolia Village, Arusha Region, Tanzania

Delegation: Dr. Naoya, Dr. Alisa, Mr. Reuben (Savannah Vision Tanzania)

 

Purpose of Visit

The visit to Naitolia Village and Naitolia Dispensary was organized to explore collaboration opportunities between Dr. Naoya Sakai, his colleague Alisa, and the Naitolia community. The aim was to understand the village’s health challenges and identify areas where external support could strengthen healthcare delivery.

 

Engagement with Village Leadership

The team arrived at Naitolia Village at approximately 11:00 AM and was welcomed by Village Chairman Loibon.

  • A briefing was held on the purpose of the visit.
  • Savannah Vision Tanzania also discussed the progress of the Naitolia Beekeepers Community with the Chairman.
  • By the end of December, Savannah Vision Tanzania will support the beekeepers with additional hives to expand honey production and strengthen community livelihoods.

 

Meeting at Naitolia Dispensary

The delegation met with:

  • Dr. Ernestina (Dispensary Doctor)
  • Ms. Aselina (Dispensary Nurse)
  • Mr. Robert (Chairman of the Dispensary Committee)

 

Key Discussion Points

  • Current state of healthcare services.
  • Challenges faced by medical staff in delivering adequate care.
  • Identification of priority health concerns affecting the community.

The medical team highlighted pressing health issues and resource gaps that require urgent attention.

 

Background of the Dispensary

  • The Naitolia Dispensary was constructed using funds from the community’s own sources, specifically dividends from the Randelin Wildlife Management Area (WMA).
  • The Government of Tanzania supported construction, staffing, and provision of essential drugs.
  • The dispensary remains a vital facility but faces challenges related to resources and capacity.

 

Collaboration Opportunities

Dr. Naoya and Alisa, representing Global Medicare Africa and MedEqual Japan, expressed interest in:

  • Registering a Tanzania chapter of Global Medicare Africa as a non-profit organization.
  • Supporting community health through medical supplies, training, and targeted health programs.

Partnership with Sakura Girls Secondary School

Dr. Naoya also promised to work in partnership with Sakura Girls Secondary School to:

  • Increase community health awareness among students.
  • Motivate young women to pursue professions in medicine and health-related fields.

Dr. Naoya is a long-time friend of Sakura Girls Secondary School, where Mr. Reuben serves as Headmaster. Mr. Reuben played a key role in leading the team to Naitolia Village during this visit.

  • Dispensary staff emphasized the need for enhanced support.
  • Strong potential exists for partnership initiatives to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and address community health priorities.
  • The involvement of Sakura Girls Secondary School adds an important educational dimension to future collaboration.

 

Conclusion and Next Steps

The visit successfully established dialogue with both village leadership and healthcare providers. Dr. Sakai and Alisa expressed interest in exploring avenues of collaboration with Naitolia Village.

Savannah Vision Tanzania will continue to:

  • Support the Naitolia Beekeepers Community with new hives by December 2025.
  • Work with partners to conduct a detailed needs assessment of the dispensary.
  • Collaborate with Sakura Girls Secondary School to promote health awareness and inspire students toward medical careers.
  • Explore partnership opportunities to improve rural communities well-being.
